Two numbers, and you’ll know where you stand
BMI is the threshold treatment is licensed against, so it’s the quickest way to find out whether a consultation is worth your £75. It is not the whole picture, and the section below explains what it misses.
Your BMI
Your BMI is—kg/m²
30 minutes with a Consultant Endocrinologist. Suitability is decided there — this number only starts the conversation.
If your BMI is less than 27, diet, lifestyle and psychology support is an option.
Dietitian — 60 mins, £70 →Clinical psychology — 50 mins, £125 (by email) →Personal training — 60 mins, £55 →Practical guidance from our consultants, by email — what these medications do, who they suit, and what to watch for, with some short videos along the way. Two fields, then it’s yours.
We attach your BMI and band to the sign-up so the emails arrive in a sensible order. No booking, and nothing else is asked of you.
What that number doesn't tell us
Where the weight sits
Fat stored around the organs carries far more risk than the same weight elsewhere. Two people with an identical BMI can have quite different cardiovascular risk, which is why a consultation looks at waist measurement, blood pressure and bloods rather than one number.
Muscle
BMI can't distinguish muscle from fat. If you are strongly built or train seriously, the number will overstate things — and it is one of the reasons we don't treat the threshold as a gate on its own.
Family origin
People of Asian, Black African, African-Caribbean and Arab family origin develop type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular complications at lower BMIs. If that applies to you, a number below the threshold does not necessarily mean treatment is inappropriate — it means the assessment matters more.
Most people read for a while before they book. That's sensible.
The emails and videos cover what our consultants would tell you in the first ten minutes of a consultation — how these medicines work, who they suit, what the side effects actually feel like, and what happens when you stop. When you've been through them, booking will make more sense than it does now.
If your BMI is less than 27, diet, lifestyle and psychology support is an option. See support appointments →
At a BMI below the healthy range there is nothing here for us to prescribe. Your GP is the right first conversation.
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Treatment decisions are made in a clinical consultation.
